Coinbase 24/7 BTC, ETH Futures Trading Goes Live
Coinbase has officially launched 24/7 trading for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) futures, making it the first CFTC-regulated platform in the United States to offer round-the-clock access to these futures contracts. The move is part of Coinbase’s efforts to enhance its offerings for both retail and institutional traders.
According to an official blog post, this milestone began on May 9, 2025, granting users continuous access to Bitcoin and Ethereum futures trading. This 24-hour trading option allows traders to better manage risks by responding to price fluctuations and market events in real-time, including weekends.
Partnership with Nodal Clear for Secure Trading
Coinbase has partnered with CFTC-regulated clearinghouse Nodal Clear to ensure secure and regulated futures trading. Nodal Clear’s Chairman and CEO, Paul Cusenza, emphasized that 24/7 futures trading represents a major evolution in market structure, requiring robust risk management around the clock.
Retail and institutional users can access the service via futures commission merchants (FCMs) like ABN AMRO, Wedbush Securities, and Coinbase Financial Markets, expanding the reach of Coinbase’s latest feature.
Coinbase Expands Reach with Deribit Acquisition
Coinbase’s 24/7 futures trading launch comes just a day after it announced a groundbreaking $2.9 billion acquisition of Dubai-based options trading platform Deribit. The deal involves a $700 million cash payment and 11 million shares of Coinbase Class A common stock.
This acquisition is part of Coinbase’s strategy to strengthen its global presence in the highly competitive crypto derivatives market, where it faces fierce competition from other major exchanges, including Binance and Kraken.
A Game-Changer in Crypto Derivatives
Andy Sears, CEO of Coinbase Financial Markets, highlighted the importance of the new 24/7 trading feature, calling it a “game-changer for the industry.” With its latest developments, Coinbase aims to solidify its position in the global cryptocurrency market and provide enhanced trading options for its users.
